Sample Collection and TestingThe investigation into the extent of chemical contamination of concrete, likely to cause reinforcement corrosion, is a common requirement. Typically, concrete dust samples are extracted from representative structural elements to allow laboratory tests to be carried out to determine levels of chloride contamination, for example.
Core Sampling and TestingA number of methods exist to allow an assessment to be made of the in-situ strength of concrete. The most common method is to extract a concrete core sample from the structure under investigation and to carry out a compressive strength test in the laboratory. This provides an estimated in-situ cube strength.
